Soil horizons.
<P>
   The A horizon is the topsoil, a mixture of weathered rock and decaying
   organic matter (humus).
<P>
   The B horizon contains less organic matter and is less weathered.
<P>
   The  C  horizon  is  composed  of partially broken-down bedrock, which
   feeds  the  upper  layers after further weathering and accumulation of
   organic matter.
