Lipids  (fats)  are constructed from a
   single  glycerol  molecule  and  usually  3 fatty acids by dehydration
   synthesis.

   The  fatty  acid  tails  are  nonpolar  hydrocarbon  chains  that  are
   hydrophobic.
<P>
   Such lipids may also be called triglycerides.
